I have chosen to research Hanna Müller as my first fashion illustrator as I feel that her illustrations are striking and the details are beautiful, I really admire all of her work.  Hanna is very talented and after contacting her recently, I received an e-mail with a brief personal profile which I have included below along with a few examples of her work.  This will give you a better understanding of her background and how she started illustrating as well as her inspiration and the techniques she uses to create her illustrations.

Background
Hanna was born in the northern parts of Sweden, in a tiny little village in the middle of the scandic mountains.  She has been drawing for as long as she can remember and when she became older, her drawings became part of her identity, almost like a diary but she never considered working as an illustrator.
She moved away from home when she was sixteen to study music in another city and during these 3 years, she didn’t paint at all as she was focused on school and music which took up all of her time.  After school she suddenly had a lot of free time, so she took up painting again and started a blog where she could show her friends what she was doing.  When more and more people started to discover her blog, she began receiving a lot of good feedback which allowed her to grow as an artist. She really appreciates her blog since it has given her opportunities she never ever would have had otherwise.
Style & Technique
Hanna has a simplistic, life-like style and she uses aquarelle and ink to create this effect.  She uses ink for all of the contours and for darker parts and hair and the rest is aquarelle.  Many of Hanna’s drawings do not feature any colour and the skin tone is achieved through shading.  Sometimes she chooses to use colour to create a feature on her drawing for example on the lips, fingernails or a single garment.  The facial expressions on the majority of her drawings are blank and the poses are always very unique.  She is also quite famous for using props in her drawings such as a cigarette, coffee cup, pair of glasses and a cat.  Her drawings are very striking, yet simply beautiful with the main focus always on the face. Agents and Artists (2011) believe that "her pale paintings reflect the the cool, barren landscape of the northern parts of Sweden she derives from".
